BEHIND THE SCENES: HARLEY QUINN PAGES AND PROCESS
Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti

HARLEY QUINN: FROM PAGE TO PRINT

Happy Friday folks.  Today, wow, what fun we have here for everyone.  On all of our projects, we get to work with just a roster of talented folks.  From pencillers, to inkers, colorists and letters/designers, we have been blessed to be able to see fabulous creators bring our visions to life.  Often in ways we couldn't have even imagined the results.

One obviously huge project in the past was the monumential run by AMANDA CONNER and JIMMY PALMIOTTI on the Harley Quinn title.  Doing this book for over 7 years and 100+ issues, the roster of creators was too long to list here.  However some of the key artists on the title were the amazing group of CHAD HARDIN and JOHN TIMMS.  Both were wonderful collaborators and each brought their own energy and sensibility to the title.  As we often get to see, and most fans do not, we get to glimpse the raw talent of pages coming into our inboxes in pure black and white form.  These are a joy to see.  Now we are thrilled to share them with you.

You'll see the pages as they develop, how brilliant designers JOHN J. HILL and TOM NAPOLTANO masterfully places the dialog and sound effects.  Take a look.

Look at that splash page by John Timms.  How amazing is that image of Harley?  And Bernie of course.  :)  The subtle tilt of the panel and page just adds that extra umph so we're not just staring straight at the characters.  This is why the freedom and eye of an artist is special on what they bring to the page.

And the last three panels here.  John took the time to draw all these out and show Harley with a full range of emotions.  Notice the slight shift in the fact and eyes for Harley.  It sets the mood of the page and shows the emotion of the character.

The next set of pages will show you the work of the brilliant Chad Hardin and John J. Hill as they work through the page of art and dialog without stepping or overlapping to detract from the story and page.  It's a fine dance and both creators are masterful in it!

Often times, Chad would send roughs as he was going through the script to work things out and ensure that he was envisioning what both Amanda and Jimmy were trying to accomplish with the script.  With those layouts and items, they still were magical to see.  You can see below, just how much energy Chad put in his layouts!

The remaining images are random pages that we can stare at over and over again from the artists as the energy and lovely detail they put into all of their pages cannot be understated how important these creators were to us on the title.  We do hope you see that as well!

We hope you all enjoyed this behind the scenes look at some amazing artwork and effort put in by some talented creators in John Timms and Chad Hardin.  We would work with these creators again at any moment (and maybe we will be soon) if the chance came up.  So go search them out on their work, you will not be disappointed!
