IT CAME FROM PINEHURST! 3/21 - Welcome!
Peter J. Tomasi

Life is change.

Change is life.

For those who know me back from my many years at DC Comics:

Hello again!

For those of you who don’t know who the hell I am, and are checking out my work for the first time: Nice to meet ya!

I’m excited to have all of you here as I embark on my first creator-owned digital comic.

And where is “here”?

Here, is an exciting place called ZESTWORLD.

It’s where I’m announcing BLOOD TREE, the comic series debuting on this cool, new site today.

Yeah, I know, the teaser is a bit cryptic, but what I can say, is that BLOOD TREE’S got all the elements that I love to write about and that you hopefully love to read about: interesting characters, emotion, and a visceral story all set in the city I was born and bred in.

Breathing life into this story is our wonderful artist Maxim Šimić, colorist John Kalisz, letterer Rob Leigh, and edited by fellow DC Comics veteran, Brian Cunningham.

I’d also like to call out our über-talented cover artists, Christian Alamy, who I’ve know for many years, and the always amazing Gary Frank, who’s crafted a variant cover for the opening salvo of our series. Both are colored by Brad Anderson.

Back when I was an assistant editor at DC Comics, one of the ways we supplemented our paltry income was to do letter columns. It’s, to my mind, a lost gemstone of what made comics so special for so many years, and I loved using it to give the books I was working on a specific voice, as I answered a small percentage of the huge stack of readers letters we got in each and every month with a joy and verve that I truly miss. So, in other words, that’s one of the great things about this platform I’ll be using at Zestworld…

It’ll be a place for me to shoot the shit about not just Blood Tree, but insane free association tangents that’ll give ya a peek into my brainpan and what makes Petey write and run, and also about my time in the trenches producing comic books.

I’d also like to get some of my partners in crime in the mix here from time to time, let them tell you a little about their tools and artistry in making something from nothing.

You see, I’ve got about 30 years under my belt in this wonderful and artful business of comics, and I hope to offer you all a distinct and unique point of view from both ends of the table, the editorial side and the freelance writer side. Maybe one - or maybe both sides - will be of interest to all you readers, writers, and artists out there following your muse.

Here's a teaser for Blood Tree below. Paid subscribers can expect Chapter 1 in their in-boxes on Thursday. You'll wanna make sure to subscribe here so you don't miss out.
