Today’s the day! Araña/Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow is out from the fine folks at Marvel Press and Disney Books! You can grab it wherever books are sold.
As I've noted a few times, this book is special to me in many ways, and I don’t know if I can list them all. But having the chance to write in the Spider-Verse is a huge one, and having the honor of crafting the first meaningful team-up between the two most recognizable #Latinx Spider-Heroes is also up there.I believe identification is such an important part of any artform, and I can very clearly remember when I, a Cuban-American kid from Miami, first discovered that there was another Spider-Man - from the future, but also like me. Maybe *I* could be Spider-Man after all!
So, what's it about? Araña (Anya Corazon) is a relatively new hero looking for guidance. Miguel O’Hara is a jaded, retired hero looking to escape his past. Together, they have to overcome their own defenses and issues to stop a villain from misusing an ancient Cuban artifact to destroy the timestream. The book is chock-full of fun Easter Eggs and, while packed with tons of action, is also loaded with heart - touching on themes of found family, how it’s important to never stop learning, and the definition of heroism. I hope you’ll check it out wherever books are sold!
I’ll be at the Atlantic Avenue Barnes & Noble tonight at 630pm with the amazing Zoraida Cordova for the launch - hope to see you! I also put together this handy Twitter thread with notable press hits, excerpts, and events. If you can't make it tonight, I'll be doing a virtual event with Chantel Acevedo tomorrow at Miami's Books & Books and an in-person event at my local indie, Kew & Willow, with pals Neil Kleid and Ryan Penagos himself!
Huge thanks to everyone at Marvel and Disney for their support, including my editor John Morgan, original editor Megan Logan, Michael Siglain, Sven Larsen, Lauren Bisom, Caitlin O’Connell, Carolina Rodriguez Fuenmayor (who created the beautiful cover!!), Crystal McCoy, Ryan Penagos, Jasmine Estrada, Delilah S. Dawson, Gwenda Bond, Preeti Chhibber, Nick Lowe, and anyone I may have missed! Like all books, this was a team effort and Dark Tomorrow would not exist without many helping hands.
Thanks for reading and please share pics of the cover when you get your copy! If you can't snag a copy yet, please consider spreading the word! THANK YOU!
